Momtaz Khanom, a Quran teacher, was born in Gopalganj, Dhaka. She moved to Tower Hamlets with her husband and 2 children in 1990. She has worked as a Development Officer in Bromley by Bow Centre for 15 years until 2015, where she ran services for older women. Mrs Zaman grew up performing Islamic songs and reciting poetry at her school and local cultural events. Despite gathering several notebooks of poetry, Mrs Zaman has not published her poems. Her husband, Sheikh Waliuz Zaman hopes to publish an anthology of her poetry, however she has so far declined his offer. Her beautifully written poetry are very personal and focuses on various themes such as family and grievances. We were lucky to have received permission to publish two of her poems.
